Quick and Easy Cantonese Style Watermelon Salad recipe. It’s time to double down on the watermelon and enjoy some delicious watermelon salad.

Watermelon slice

Introduction: Watermelons are one of the great pleasures of summer. After you finish your cool water sandwich, don’t just toss the rinds in the trash. You can make a tasty watermelon salad with the rinds. Here is my wife’s traditional watermelon salad recipe. Adjust the amounts to suit your tastes. Blend the ingredients together gently after each step. This recipe makes a bowl full of watermelon salad, which came from the rinds of two slices of watermelon.

Preparation Time: About 15 minutes

Ingredients:

Watermelon rinds/ Cilantro/ Vinegar/ Black Pepper /Red Pepper Flakes

Sesame Oil /Soy Sauce /Fried Garlic Dried /Salt

Dried Fried Garlic, Sesame Oil, Soy Sauce

These authentic ingredients are well worth a trip to your local Asian market, or order online. They add just the right touch of authentic Cantonese flavor to the watermelon pickles.

Step 1: Begin by cutting off the outside hard green rind. Cut off the inside pink flesh down to the rind. Water thoroughly in warm water.

Step 2: Thinly slice the clean watermelon rinds about the width of a french fry.

Step 3: Add about a teaspoon of cilantro.

Step 4: Toss in a tablespoon of dried fried garlic.

Step 5: Grind some fresh black pepper over the top.

Step 6: Sprinkle in a couple pinches of salt.

Step 7: Add a dash of soy sauce.

Step 8: Toss in some red pepper flakes.

Step 9: Pour in a couple spoonfuls of vinegar.

Step 10: Add oil — a teaspoon of cooking oil and a splash of sesame oil.

Blend all the ingredients together and serve. Adjust the amounts as you like. You can add other ingredients such as: cooked meat, peanuts, sugar, chopped onions, or chives. Experiment and enjoy the season. If you have a favorite recipe please share it in the comments. Enjoy.
