Tips on how to stay healthy during the Covid-19 pandemic

The following information is based on advice posted by the American Medical Association at: https://www.ama-assn.org/delivering-care/public-health/dr-fauci-outlines-5-ways-blunt-covid-19-pandemic-s-resurgence

And the interview of Dr. Fauci: Coronavirus Q & A with Dr. Anthony Fauci Journal of the American Medical Association posted to YouTube.

With the news today of President Trump testing positive for the covid-19 coronavirus and being admitted to the hospital, I thought I would share some vital health information from Dr. Anthony Fauci. Although he never wished to become famous, nonetheless during the coronavirus pandemic Dr. Anthony Fauci has been a beacon of medical information during this dark Covid-19 pandemic. In August, during an interview with the editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association, Dr. Fauci stressed “…five keys physicians should be stressing with patients to protect themselves, their families and their communities from the deadly, contagious respiratory illness.” Although most of the world has been able to reduce or stop the spread of covid-19, we could all use a reminder. If the guy who says he is “tested all the time” can catch the virus, we all have to keep on our guard, especially with flu season approaching.

Always wear a mask when in public. By wearing masks we protect each other. Some people are infected but do not know it, and they would be spreading the virus wherever they go. Everyone needs to do this! Wear the mask properly. Not only do I see many people going without masks, I see many who are wearing masks incorrectly. For some reason, many people I see in Walmart and elsewhere leave their nose uncovered. I have also seen many people who pull their masks down when they want to hear or see better — reading labels for example. And many a**holes just leave it dangling from their ear or under their chin. Mask Up. And keep your hands off it once you have it on. I see so many people tugging on their masks because it is so unnatural, but the major way the virus spreads through is from surfaces.

Here is a video on how to wear a mask from the WHO which has been online for EIGHT MONTHS. It also show you how to use hand sanitizer correctly.

Avoid Crowds A lot of the recent increase in virus spread has come from crowded bars, parties and events. Just don’t hang out with large groups of people right now. For instance, some super-spreader events in the US include: the big motorcycle rally in Sturgis South Dakota; university frat parties, house parties and political rallies. I personally think the supermarket is too crowded and continue to feel as if I am in a sci-fi movie whenever I go shopping. Always make a list and stick to it as closely as you can.

Dr. Fauci — from MARCH 3 How to Avoid Coronavirus

Stay six feet or more apart We all have learned a new term — Social Distancing. Stay at least two arms length apart from people who are not part of your household. That is simple, but many people are unwilling to even do that basic act of public health safety. A while back I was approached by a neighbor who just kept coming closer and closer until I stuck my hand out and shook his hand to keep him from getting too close to my wife. I tried to minimize my potential virus dosage while we had a conversation. My wife wisely stepped back. After he walked away, I washed my hands thoroughly with the soap and water was always carry in our car, and used hand sanitizer for good measure.

Take it Outside The emerging evidence is clearly showing that “outdoor is always better than indoor if you want to do any kind of a function,” Dr. Fauci said. Keep the number of people involved to an absolute minimum. Getting outside for exercise is also important to staying healthy. Tips for taking it outside: First — stay distant. Second — Duration — how long are you exposed to others. Third — Ventilation — Airflow is key so keep your conversations in the breeze. Right now the NBA is functioning in a bubble. Although I think it would be much more interesting if they played b’ball outside like so many of us do.

WASH YOUR HANDS “That sounds really simple. It’s not rocket science, but it can really be effective,” Dr. Fauci said. “It’s in our hands. … You have the dynamics of the virus which, if left to its own devices, will keep resurging. The only way to stop it is what we do as a countermeasure. It can be done.” We all have been told this since we were little kids. But make sure you are washing your hands as effectively as possible. To tell you the truth, when this virus started to spread, I looked up several How-to lessons from the CDC on proper hand washing.

To Recap:

Always wear a mask

Avoid crowds

Practice social distancing

Go outside

Wash your hands

Please stay safe. Keep healthy. And take care of yourselves and your loved ones.
